PART 13: Running missions.Hello Cadets!
Most lessons up to now were simple, easy. This isn’t one of those lessons.
Things are about to get a bit.. complicated;
By the time you get to this part, most of you have already fiddled around with some ships, some fits and maybe even joined a roam or two.
This piece of guide here is designed to teach you all the ins and outs on running missions!
“Missions are easy” you might say, which isn’t wrong, but they need to be approached correctly.
So first thing first, Let’s talk about our enemy!
Some facts on our beloved NPC’s
1) NPC’s belong to the different factions in the game. They use the ships and modules that faction Is using. Gallente NPC’s will be using railguns and blasters for example.
2) Each mission *normaly* only spawns one specific type of NPC’s. a mission will normaly be either Gallente, Minmatar, Caldari or Amarr pirates.
3) Each faction does their own unique damage so if you know what damage the enemy is doing, you know how to resist it best!
These facts help us understand how to properly fit a ship, and with some reasoning we come to an important understanding:
To run missions well, you must re-fit your ship for the incoming damage!
Okay, so how do you know which enemy is attacking you and what damage types they do?
Easy! Just google the mission name, The top results are normaly documented encounters for the missions! They will state what NPC are present there.
Now how do you know which damage types they do?
Just visit here!
www.ogrank.com/content/view/698/59/As you can see most NPC’s only deal two types of damage!
Fittings and Ships:
The starting ship for level 1’s should be the catalyst in the corporation fittings, called “PvE Missions CADET” – Can be found by either searching for CADET or PvE in the corporation fittings.
Notice this fit uses Kinetic and Thermic hardeners, that means that the ship is useful for fighting against enemies that deal this type of damage. Fit should be updated and changed to combat other types of of enemies.
More advanced ships for level 2’s can be found within the corporation fittings using the PVE keyword for the search. Always remember to fit resistence, Shield or Armor, to combat your incoming enemy damage.
Moving forward, You’ve done a bunch of level 1’s, they’re easy and you’re bored. How do you unlock those awesome level 2’s?
To answer that question we need to understand a little bit how standing works in eve, and what it represents.
STANDINGS AND AGENTSStandings! Always good to have them, no one knows what they do! Well now you’ll know.
Eve organizations are structured into Factions, Corporations and Individuals(for NPC’s).
The gallente federation is a faction, It has many corporations under it. Federation navy is a corporation that belongs to the gallente federation. So this Corporation belongs to a Faction.
There are many other corporations that belong to the gallente empire. Each corporation has many different agents stationed in various locations around eve.
So it goes Faction > Corporation > Agent.
If you have a 10.0 standing(the max you can get in eve) with The gallente Empire Faction, That means that you also have 10.0 with every single corporation within the gallente Empire Faction and with all of the agents inside of all those corporations.
Why is this important?
Different missions require different standings to run them!
Level 1’s don’t need any standings.
Level 2’s require a 1.0 standing with either the specific agent, his corporation or his faction.
Level 3’s require a 3.0 standing with either the specific agent, his corporation or his faction.
Level 4’s require a 5.0 standing with either the specific agent, his corporation or his faction.
Level 5’s require a 7.0 standing with either the specific agent, his corporation or his faction.
That also means that a specific agent only gives specific level missions. A level 1 agent will never give level 2 missions!
Gaining StandingsCompleting missions for an agent increases your standings with him and his corporation. This is called “raw” standing, as you can boost it even more using skills!
Social – this skill increases the amount of standings you get per mission. Less grind for those level 2’s and 3’s!
Connections – This skill makes the NPC think higher of you for the same amount of standings.
A new value is calculated called “modified standing” which is higher than your “raw” standings.
This means you need less than 1.0 to run level 2’s, and less than 3.0 to run level 3’s.
Unlocking a level 2 agent
First – you must find the the name of the corporation you are already running level 1’s for.
Next – Go to the people’s and places (alt+E by default), Agents tab, Agent finder at the bottom.
Check all the filters as followed:
1)Faction – ANY
2)Corporation – The name of the corporation you’re already running level 1’s for
3)Agent type – Any(You can select specific mission types here)
4)region – any
5)solar system – any
6)Security status – high sec.
Keep the check box checked for show only available, and then move the slider to the number 2.
If you get no results, uncheck that checkbox and you’ll find the agents you can’t yet access sorted by how far they are.
you can play with the filters to find all the level 2 agents you can’t access yet, find their corporations and start running level 1’s for their corporation!
Checking your own standing
Go to your character sheet (alt+A by default) go to standings, and there you go.
Notice you have standings for corporations and for factions. When you run missions only the corporation standing increases.
Faction standing
Faction standing is the most important standing in the game in the long run. This means that if you have 1.0 standing with gallente empire, you can run level 2’s with every single gallente corporation. Which is awesome, because you don’t need to grind any level 1’s anymore for anyone.
You gain faction standing by running Storyline missions. Those missions are handed out every 16 regular missions.
Losing standing
What comes up, Must go down. You can lose faction standings with factions you have no direct interactions with !
Some storyline missions will send you against other factions at times. When you kill enemy faction ships you lose standings with them. Why is this a problem?
If you get less than -5.0 standings with a faction, Their navy will shoot you on sight in their space, making it impossible for you to enter highsec space of that faction.
So – careful how bad you’re getting with some of these people!
This concludes the very long and complex lesson on standings and missions!
